 What We Believe

Simply Put . . .

We believe the Bible as we have it in the Old Testament and in the New Testament to be the inspired written Word of God.  The Holy Spirit is its Author, and He moved upon the minds of chosen men to write exactly the words He revealed unto them.   Scripture appears in various forms of literary style such as poetry, historical narrative, prophecy and apocalyptic imagery.

II Timothy 3:16;   II Peter 1:20

We believe that the God of the Bible is the absolute and only God, Sovereign over all of His creation inclusive of things in heaven, on the earth and under earth.   We believe that He is rightly thought of as three distinct persons:  the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; yet, One only God.  Each Person is in perfect harmony and intent of purpose with the others, so that neither contradicts the other. This works out in salvation to mean that all those and only those that are elected by the Father in eternity are those who the Son died for when He died on the cross, and those only whom the Holy Spirit visits to regenerate to bring to newness of life.

 Isaiah 45:18;  I Corinthians 8: 6,  I John 5: 7

We believe Jesus Christ born of the virgin Mary is nevertheless the eternal Son of God the Father.  He left His rightful habitation in heaven to come to earth to be clothed in the likeness of human flesh and to suffer the contradiction of sinners.  It is recorded that He is called Jesus for He will save His people (those chosen by the Father) from their sins.  What He did when He died upon the cross is a finished work which finalized the sin issue in the chosen people of God.   Christ is Prophet, Priest, and King to His people being their all sufficiency for whatever may befall them in this physical world.

 Matthew 1: 21,23;  Romans 8: 23;   Hebrews 2: 17; Hebrews 12: 3;  John 6: 65; Hebrews 12: 2;  II Corinthians 3: 5

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the revealer of the finshed work of Christ to His elect people. He is their comforter and teacher as well as guide and deliverer.   He always and at all times points the believing child of God to the beauties of the finished work of Christ.   He constantly wars against the flesh causing the elect child never to find settled satisfaction in sin.

John 14: 26; John 15: 26; Romans 8: 26-27;  I Corinthians 2: 10-12;  Galatians 5: 16-18

We believe that man as He now exists in Adam is totally and absolutely depraved and is incapable of doing anything pleasing in the sight and acceptance of God.  He is both depraved in his thoughts and in the intents of his heart and mind and in his actions whether they be of a sinful or self-righteous nature. He is spoken of in Scripture as being dead in trespasses and sin. He is blind to the Kingdom of God and deaf to the Gospel of God.  Most of all, he is totally unwilling because he has no will to bow to the Sovereign Lord, to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, or to worship Him in Spirit and Truth.  His wisdom is corrupted to the point of being senseless folly, and his love is a prostitution of the God who is love.  Since God is infinitely holy, man cannot approach Him in any way outside of being clothed in Christ's righteousness.

Genesis 6: 5;  Mark 7: 20-23;  Romans 3: 10-11, 18;  Ephesians 2: 1, 5;  Colossians 2: 13

We believe that those spoken of as believers were elected (chosen) of the Father before the foundation of the world. This election was not because of any foreseen faith in them or of any merit growing out of their intentions to do the best they can.  It is sovereignly given by grace and is in no way by works before or after they become believers in Christ.
